Fractional Chief Innovation Officer

C-level innovation leadership, for as long as you need it.

Work with George Krasadakis as your fractional Chief Innovation Officer: senior roles at Microsoft, Accenture, GSK and ResMed, five ventures of his own, a 2018 patent on voice-driven AI ideation, the book Innovation Mode, and Ainna, the agentic innovation platform he architected. He sets up your innovation function, runs its first phase and recruits the permanent leader who takes it over.

George Krasadakis

Four innovation centres designed or optimised; five technology ventures founded. Senior roles at Microsoft, Accenture, GSK and ResMed. Author of Innovation Mode.

For
Executives and senior leaders who need innovation leadership at C-level before the company can justify, or find, a full-time Chief Innovation Officer.
Objective
An innovation function with an approved masterplan, a core team and its first phase under way, and a permanent leader ready to run it.
Structure
A monthly retainer, agreed quarter by quarter: most days at the start, fewer as your team takes over. Reporting to your executive sponsor; on site for the key workshops.
What it is

A Chief Innovation Officer’s mandate, without the full-time hire

A fractional Chief Innovation Officer holds the CINO mandate for as long as the company needs one: a seat with your leadership team, accountability for the innovation function, and the authority to hire and lead. Where Corporate Innovation Advisory designs the function and the masterplan with your team, a fractional CINO runs them: works inside the organisation, reports to an executive sponsor, takes decisions with your leadership team, hires and leads your own people, and leaves a working function and the permanent leader who runs it.

What is needed at [the start of an innovation transformation] is a deep understanding of the innovation process and experience in architecting innovation programs.Innovation Mode
When it fits

Four situations where a fractional CINO is the right call

And one where it is not: if you already have a strong Chief Innovation Officer, on-demand days or ongoing advisory beside them are the better fit.

  1. No innovation function yetYou are at the first levels of the Innovation Maturity Index and need the function designed and started before you know which full-time role to hire.
  2. A head of innovation without a seat at the tableYour innovation lead runs the work but reports below the C-suite. The fractional CINO holds the mandate with the leadership team while your lead grows into it.
  3. Between Chief Innovation OfficersThe interim role keeps the programme moving, and its sponsors engaged, while you recruit.
  4. A restart after innovation theatreLabs, hackathons and idea portals have produced activity but few results. The function needs a reset, a masterplan and measures the board will fund.
How it works

From the first assessment to the handover, and after

A monthly retainer, agreed a quarter at a time. The first quarter takes the most days; each quarter ends with a review with your sponsor of the scope, the days and whether to continue. The diagnostic comes first, as a fixed-price step of its own, and its fee is credited in full against the first quarter if you continue. The sequence follows Chapter 10 of Innovation Mode, and the engagement is designed to end: the core of an innovation team should be permanent.

  1. Weeks 1–3Before the retainer, the Innovation Maturity Diagnostic, at a fixed price: a short anonymous survey across a cross-section of the company and a briefing for your leadership teamOutputYour maturity level, the gaps and what to fix first
  2. Quarter 1Prepare, the quarter with the most days: the innovation vision and agenda with your executives, the first two hires of the core team, and the priorities for the first capabilitiesOutputAn Innovation Masterplan approved by your leadership
  3. Quarters 2–3Power-Up, with fewer days as the core team takes on the work: the announcement, the briefing for middle managers, the first innovation capabilities and the first innovation surveyOutputA programme under way, with a baseline to measure against
  4. Quarters 3–4Hand over: the permanent leader recruited with the hiring kit, a period of overlap, and the function transferredOutputYour Chief Innovation Officer in place, with the function they will run
  5. AfterOn-demand days: a prepaid allowance your new Chief Innovation Officer draws on for portfolio and board reviews, key hires and the difficult callsOutputSenior support when it is needed, without a retainer
Ways to start

Four ways to work together

Most engagements start with the diagnostic: it is the assessment a new innovation leader would run first, and it shows whether a fractional role is the right answer.

Who you work with

Ambitious about what innovation can become, pragmatic about what works today

George has led innovation inside multinationals and built ventures of his own, so he knows where large organisations stall and how start-ups move. He has patented AI systems for capturing ideas, written the method down, and architected the platform that runs it with AI agents. His stance is bold and practical at once: he knows what can be achieved with the current state of the art, and what comes next. As your fractional Chief Innovation Officer he holds the role himself, with your leadership team, from the first assessment to the handover.

Questions

Questions about the fractional role

What is a fractional Chief Innovation Officer?

A senior innovation executive who holds the Chief Innovation Officer mandate on a monthly retainer, agreed a quarter at a time, reporting to an executive sponsor, often the CEO. A fractional CINO sets up or resets the innovation function, runs its first phase and hands it to a permanent leader, without the company making a full-time C-level hire before it knows what the role needs.

What is the difference between a fractional and an interim Chief Innovation Officer?

An interim Chief Innovation Officer covers the gap between two permanent leaders, so that the programme keeps moving while you recruit. A fractional one is often the company's first innovation executive, there to design the function and the role before a permanent hire. The mandate and the working pattern are the same.

How much does a fractional Chief Innovation Officer cost?

The usual first step, the Innovation Maturity Diagnostic, is a fixed €12,000, excluding VAT, for three weeks, and its fee is credited in full against the first quarter if you continue. The fractional role is a monthly retainer, agreed a quarter at a time and priced on proposal according to the days each quarter. On-demand days after the handover are a prepaid allowance, also priced on proposal.

How is a fractional CINO different from innovation consulting?

Consulting, including our own Corporate Innovation Advisory, designs the innovation function and the masterplan with your team, to a fixed scope. A fractional Chief Innovation Officer then holds the mandate: sits with your leadership team, makes decisions, hires and leads your people, and is accountable for the function. What remains at the end is a working innovation function and the leader who runs it.

Is there a minimum term?

One quarter. The retainer is agreed a quarter at a time, and each quarter ends with a review with the executive sponsor: the scope, the days and whether to continue. Most engagements run two to four quarters: the first to assess the company and win approval for the Innovation Masterplan, then the first phase of the programme, while the permanent leader is recruited and the function is handed over.

Can we have your time on demand instead?

Yes, once there is an innovation leader to work with: after the handover, or beside a leader you already have. On-demand days are a prepaid allowance your Chief Innovation Officer draws on as needed, for portfolio and board reviews, key hires and the difficult calls, without a monthly retainer. Before there is a leader, the role needs the retainer, because someone has to hold the mandate.

Do you also offer a fractional Chief AI Officer?

Yes, on the same model: a monthly retainer agreed quarter by quarter, starting with the AI Readiness Assessment, with on-demand days after the handover. Where AI is the main source of new opportunities, the two roles can be combined in one mandate.

2026 Technology Innovation: Trends, Opportunities, Risks.

The technologies shaping 2026 (agentic AI, humanoid robots, quantum computing, brain-computer interfaces, AI for science, and climate tech) are no longer emerging; they're converging. For innovation leaders, this demands a fundamental shift: when AI commoditizes ideation, the scarce capabilities become opportunity discovery, rapid validation, and execution speed. Innovation is no longer a competitive advantage; it's a survival trait.
